I have been excited about today for 2 weeks! That’s because our local Charleston farmer’s market is officially in full swing!
I woke up laughing because it’s seems so funny that now as I’ve gotten older, I get far too excited for farmer’s market produce. It seems like just yesterday Saturdays were all about sleeping in and recovering from the night before. Nope, now my Friday nights are low key just because of days like today… seriously!
Last night we went to a friends house for dinner, after 2-glasses of wine my friend tried to refill my glass at which point I quickly covered it with my hand and said, “no thanks, we’re going to the farmer’s market in the morning.” Lol… wow, total foodie dork!
Dan and I did get to sleep in a bit, until 7:45 when Zoe announced she was not going to hold “it” any longer. We made it downtown by 9:45, picked up this little beauty and then walked the 2 blocks to the main event!
Oh how I love my latte (3 shot; soy milk; 2 splenda).
The market was PACKED! People go there not just for the fresh produce, but there are food vendors galore! People tell us all the time how great the food is, but Dan and I are huge breakfast people who have to eat the second our toes hit the ground. Because of that we never eat there… we’re a couple on a food mission!
It was a bit overwhelming at first, especially trying to be careful weaving in and out of the crowds with my awesome knee as it is. But we made it through, priced all the farmers and then came back to the ones we liked the best!
- Kale
- Pea shoots (so good!)
- Cherry tomatoes
- Eggplant
- Strawberries
- Red onion
- Vadalia Onion
- Arugala
- Bell pepper
- Beets
- Brussel sprouts
It was worth the huge masses of people! I can’t wait for next week, now that I know a bit of what is available at this time of year. I just can’t wait for the peaches and watermelons to start popping up!
Questions of the day:
- Do you have a farmers market? Do you go there?
- What’s your favorite veggie?
- What’s your “signature” coffee drink?
