The Paris Wife by Paula McLain. Written from the perspective of Ernest Hemingway’s first wife, this book offers a fascinating glimpse into Hemingway and the expatriate Parisian lifestyle in the 1920s. But at core this is a love story that everyone can relate to. In the vein of Girl with a Pearl Earring only more seductive.
The Mill River Recluse by Darcie Chan. A woman spends sixty years secluded after her abusive husband left her disfigured. An intriguing page-turner.
The Darlings by Cristina Alger. A juicy novel about a wealthy, New York family embroiled in a financial scandal. Anyone who was riveted by the Bernie Madoff story won’t be able to put this one down.
The Song Remains the Same by Allison Winn Scotch. A funny, engrossing novel about a girl who wakes up from a plane crash with complete amnesia and has a chance to reinvent herself or return to her former life. What would you do?
What she’s been up to:
Emily: Currently, I am working on a piece about my friend, Ralph Sampson, for his induction into the Naismith Memorial Basektball Hall of Fame. He was my childhood idol so it’s such an honor that he chose me to write his enshrinement essay (And it fulfills one of my childhood dreams of being a sports writer!). I will start writing my seventh book in the fall and am beginning to mull over ideas now.
